Geotechnical Driller / Drilling Machine Operator

Position Overview

BEN Specialized Engineering Ltd. is a leading geotechnical engineering firm operating in Rwanda and across Eastern Africa. The company specializes in geotechnical investigations, soil and rock testing, foundation engineering, slope stabilization, and construction materials testing. We are seeking a motivated, experienced, and competent geotechnical driller to join our field investigation team.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain geotechnical drilling equipment safely and efficiently
• Execute deep geotechnical investigations
• Perform Standard Penetration Tests (SPT)
• Carry out undisturbed and disturbed soil sampling
• Lead and supervise drilling crews during field operations
• Perform proper maintenance and repair of drilling equipment
• Prepare daily drilling logs and field reports
• Comply with all health, safety, and environmental requirements

Required Qualifications

• Vocational school certificate or diploma in a related field
• Proven experience operating geotechnical drilling rigs, preferably wireline drilling systems, for at least 5 years
• Demonstrated experience in:
  • Deep geotechnical investigations using wireline machines
  • Rock coring and quarry investigations
  • Standard Penetration Testing (SPT)
  • Undisturbed sampling techniques

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

• Ability to repair and maintain drilling equipment
• Strong leadership and team management skills
• Good communication and reporting skills
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Willingness and ability to learn operating various machinery
• Experience training junior staff on machine operation

Compensation

Salary is negotiable based on qualifications and experience.
