Project HOPE is a global health and humanitarian organization committed to empowering local health care workers to save lives, strengthen health systems, and provide humanitarian assistance worldwide. In Ethiopia, Project HOPE implements the Health Security Activity (HSA), a five-year program funded by the U.S. Department of State. The project aims to strengthen health security systems in the Amhara, Afar, and Tigray regions through improved disease surveillance, enhanced laboratory capacity, and development of a skilled One Health workforce. HSA also provides technical and other forms of outbreak support during public health emergencies occurring across all regions of Ethiopia.

Position Summary

The Emergency Preparedness and Response Coordinator will lead the coordination and implementation of preparedness and response activities under the Health Security Activity (HSA). Based at the central office in Addis Ababa, the coordinator will oversee regional implementation, provide technical guidance, and ensure strong coordination with Regional Surveillance Officers and key stakeholders.

The role focuses on strengthening early warning systems, enhancing preparedness capacities, and ensuring timely and effective response to public health emergencies. The coordinator will play a critical role in linking national and regional efforts, supporting outbreak response, and advancing One Health collaboration to improve overall health security outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate and oversee emergency preparedness and response activities across HSA regions
• Provide technical leadership and guidance to Regional Surveillance Officers and field teams
• Ensure alignment of preparedness and response activities with program objectives and national health security priorities

Location and Travel

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (with frequent travel to project regions and during public health emergencies)
